Adoption Process:
Our Adoption Process:
1. See a dog you like? Fill out an Adoption Application. Adoption Application file is at the bottom of the page. If you cannot access it, please email us and we will gladly send you the file. Please read through the adoption process before proceeding. If you only have a question, email me at EnlightenedCanines@yahoo.com.
2. Once your application has been reviewed and accepted, you will be called to set up a meet and greet appointment. (There is no shelter to visit! We are foster based only and want to protect the privacy of our foster homes. Appointments are necessary to ensure this!)
3. The meet and greet will be scheduled at the fosters home where the dog is located at. You must be willing to travel to meet the dog!
4. If we feel you'd make a great match for the dog and vice versa, we will then proceed to make another appointment to schedule a home check. Home checks are required to adopt one of our dogs! Sorry no out of state adoptions, ONLY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA!!
5. After the home check is complete and passed, we can now follow up with adoption paperwork/contracts/adoption fees.
6. Once all paperwork and fees have been completed and accepted, you are now ready to become the proud parent of your new family member! During this process we will also go over training commands taught to the dog. And also go over them with you, so you know how to continue working with your enlightened canine!
What we are looking for in our adopters!
We want someone who is a pack leader, or someone who is willing to learn how to become a pack leader! We train our rescue dogs to the best of our abilities and we want the new owners to continue with the training, otherwise the dog will revert back to old behaviors.
We give our adopters free training for the life of their newly adopted dog, including dogs that are already part of the family! We want an adopter who is dedicated and wants to be part of their dogs life, that includes bringing them to training dates!
We also want our adopters to give their dogs clear direction, rules, boundaries and limitations. We do not believe in allowing a dog free range when they first come into your home. We want our adopters to set forth goals and expectations for their new addition.
Lastly, we want our adopters to provide daily exercise. This does not include free romps in the backyard or time at the dog park. We're talking "pack walks." This consists of 40 minutes to 1 hour a day of migrating!
If you don't think you can provide what we are looking for, then please do not send in an application. We do not want to waste your time, nor our own.
If you feel you can provide, please fill out an application. We would love to meet you and possibly find you your newest family member!
