Enlightened Canines! Rescue & Rehabilitation is foster based ONLY! We do not have a kennel or facility in which these dogs are housed. And the dogs that are in our care, go through an extensive rehab program that can sometimes take up to 3 to 6 months to work on. Currently our foster homes are full and we DO NOT have available room to take in your dog!
If you are trying to re-home your dog for behavioral reasons, please call a trainer/behaviorist who can help you solve your problems! Most shelters are full of dogs, and if your dog has behavioral issues, chances are your dog will be euthanized. It is also unfair for a rescue to have to take in dogs with major behavioral issues, as most rescues are not equipped to handle such cases. Pet responsibility lies with the owner. Please email at EnlightenedCanines@yahoo.com for a number to a great Behaviorist!
If you are trying to re-home your dog because your spouse no longer likes the dog...well I'd say, suck it up and stand your ground. What is more important...your dog's life or a nagging spouse? Reminds me of a joke: If you were to lock up your dog and your spouse into the trunk of your car for 4 hours...and when you re-opened the trunk, who do you think would be happy to see you?
If you are trying to re-home your dog because someone is having a baby...I can understand if the dog doesn't like the baby, but at least "TRY" to work with the situation. Lots of babies were raised with dogs. It's really not that hard! A good friend of mine, raised a baby with 2 dogs! The child has grown to love and appreciate animals. Not only are there benefits to exercising, by walking the child and dogs at the same time, but you do teach the child resposibilities and how to care for something.
Please do your research! If you have a purebred dog that you need to give up, look for breed specific rescues that may be able to help! Google is a great source to find those rescues.
You can also check out www.Petharbor.com for a list of rescue organizations...but be forewarned...Rescues are full!!!! There are too many foreclosed homes leaving abandoned animals, or having people dumping their pets at a moments notice. Yes, we want to help, but we don't have many resources ourselves in this economy. Also with the bully breeds, you will find it most difficult to find a rescue to take them in. Most rescues do not have insurance coverage for those breeds.
Best of luck to you and especially your dog...I truly hope they can find a great, loving FOREVER home wherever they are placed.
It helps if:
Your dog is currently vaccinated against Rabies
Your dog is currently vaccinated with DH-PP
Your dog is currently altered. Spayed/Neutered.
Your dog has "records" of all medical history
You're willing to "sponsor" your dog while in rescue
You're willing to give all the dog's belongings
You're willing to give a monetary donation for vet bills, dental cleanings, grooming, etc.
These are some of the things listed, that might help your dog get into rescue!
